GUIDELINES FOR THE 2009 RICHARD B. HARWELL BOOK AWARD
The Civil War Round Table of Atlanta is now accepting nominations for the 21st
awarding of the Richard B. Harwell Book Award. This annual prize “for the best
book on a Civil War subject published in the preceding year”, honors the high
standards of Civil War historiography set by Richard Harwell. Books to be
considered for this year’s award must have been published in 2008.
While any book on the subject of the Civil War published in the appropriate year
may qualify for consideration, entries are judged by the Harwell Committee on a
variety factors. Some of these factors include: originality of subject or
treatment; historical accuracy; effectiveness of presentation; and the degree of
original contribution to Civil War literature. Additional factors such as first
time authors, western theater topics, etc. may also be considered.
NOMINATION SOURCES: Nominations for the Harwell Award may come from
publishers, authors, or members of the CWRT of Atlanta. Additional nominations
